The pending retirement of a longtime Harris County Sheriff's Department 
employee forced Commissioners Court to change county policy last week. 
The change seems rather obvious, but, in truth, the issue had not come up 
before. 
>From now on, service dogs employed by the county can stay with their handlers 
for the rest of their days, even after hanging up their public leashes for 
good.
