AR-News: (India) Berserk in butter chicken country

Avian flu has armed vegetarians with new logic. In Gurgaon’s provision 
stores, chicken legs are not leaving the shelves, chicken wings are grounded and the 
dressed chickens squat in long rows. Delhi and its suburbs may not exactly be 
the non-vegetarian Capital of the country but the city used to gorge itself 
on poultry. I tried to take unfair advantage of the situation by approaching 
the counter to ask if they had slashed the poultry rates. ‘‘Not yet,’’ said 
the man at the counter. Nevertheless, unmoved by either superstitions or science 
of bird flue, I bought my chicken and proceeded to the car park. 
There was our robust but confused gentleman accosted by a more rotund man. ‘‘
How could you?’’ said this other man. Mr Confused turned to his wife and 
mumbled, ‘‘She was telling me... for a few weeks...’’
