Wild animals well-suited for frigid weather
By ROCHELLE SQUIRES, THE SUN
While we may be freezing our tails off, our furry friends in the wild are
doing just fine. "As long as the animals were not already sick or injured, they
will survive the cold weather," said Paula Grieef, resident naturalist at Oak
Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre.
Any wild bird or animal still out there is well adapted to handle this kind
of weather, she said.
RESOURCEFUL
The nights are the most difficult but animals are resourceful in keeping
warm, Grieef said. Rabbits and birds snuggle into evergreen bushes or shrubs, and
deer hunker down beside hay bales to get away from the wind.
