Tuesday, January 27, 2004 (Mumbai):
In yet another incident of cruelty to animals, a hidden camera footage,
shot by animal right activists, pictures the hardships faced by a blind
circus hippopotamus.
Raja, the hippo, is seen in his homea filthy water tank. The hippo spends
most of his time lying on the side, to keep cool. But there's barely
enough water to reach his knees.
...
"The animal is blind and the circus authorities are making him perform in
defiance of court orders," said Anuradha Sawhney, chief functionary, PETA
India.
"Animal Welfare Board Inspectors approached the police at all the three
places in Mumbai where the circus has traveled. But they have not been
very helpful," he added.
