Plans to build a controversial centre for experiments on monkeys have been
shelved by Cambridge University.
It decided security against attacks by animal rights groups would have made
the laboratory too expensive to run.
BBC News science correspondent Pallab Ghosh said the announcement will
embarrass Tony Blair and John Prescott, who gave their backing to the project.
The centre had become a focus of the growing battle between medical
researchers and anti-vivisectionists.
