Medford, Oregon - Those who love animals already know the troubling dilemmas 
faced by animal shelters all over America where personnel must face life and 
death questions with no easy answers. HBO's Shelter Dogs looks at a year in the 
life of one controversial animal shelter. Although set in New York, the 
issues involved are universal. 
Shelter Dogs director Cynthia Wade had unrestricted access to rural New 
York's Rondout Valley Kennels, where controversial owner Sue Sternberg and her 
dedicated staff balance a love for animals with the realities of caring for an 
unending stream of dogs that wind up on their doorstep. An animal welfare 
pioneer, Sternberg believes every day is an opportunity to improve a shelter dog's 
life behaviorally, emotionally and physically, bettering the chances of finding 
a loving home.
