ATLANTA -- Welcome to "Crittercam," a new television show that lets you see
the world from an animal's point of view.
How is it done? A team puts special video cameras -- called Crittercams -- on
the animals.
You get to see what the animals see and go where they go. You feel like you
become part of their secret world. You travel to places where humans could
never travel before.
How camera works
The camera, which looks like a rocket, is attached to the animal with a
suction cup, belt or harness. On a penguin, for example, it is strapped on like a
backpack.
A tiny computer, a timer, a microphone, headlights and temperature testers
are included. It's all sealed inside an aluminum case to keep everything dry.
The cameras are made especially for each critter. "We can use it with animals
from the size of a penguin to the size of a blue whale, and they never even
know it's there," said Mike Heithaus, 29, a scientist who is host of the show
and is known as "Dr. Mike."
