'How Dare They Do This Dastardly Thing!'
January 25, 2004
By Michelle Esteban
MASON COUNTY - It's all puppy love between Phyllis Savoie and her beloved
dogs.
"We're very funny in this family, none of our animals know they're animals!"
she laughed.
They're family - but it's a broken family.
Last month Coal, the one-year-old black lab of the family, disappeared.
"I'm very very upset and very intensely, I don't want it to happen to
someone else," she said.
Savoie's worried, because in less than a year, three of her six dogs have
vanished.
On December 7th, Coal joined Patriot, Mischief and Shotzy for a run on
Savoie's 10 acres. Coal never came home.
"Oh dear! All I could say was Oh dear God! Not again!" she remembered.
Neighbors say black labs have been disappearing. Most of from a rural
section North of Shelton. We counted two more black labs and a cat missing
on this local bulletin board.
There's also the case of two other labs that went missing and came up dead.
They were both were mutilated, skinned, and dumped in a plastic bag on the
side of the road. One lived near Savoie in Mason County, the other in nearby
Kitsap County.
Rance McEntyre says, It's disturbing, even to the seasoned animal control
officer. There's a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
'I was so angry, so angry! How dare they do this, how dare they do this
dastardly thing," exclaimed Savoie. She worries her black lab may have been
snatched by the same culprit. Until she knows for sure, she's keeping a
close watch on her family.
"I'm not a detective, but my goodness sake, I know something is fishy in
Denmark," she said.
Savoie hopes her interview will prompt someone to come forward and lead to
an arrest. There is a $6,000 reward for information.
