TRAVERSE CITY - Twenty years ago, the city commission sought direction
from city residents on the future of Clinch Park Zoo. Today, commissioners
will discuss going down that road again.
"I don't have a clue what the citizens of this town want," commissioner
Rick Csapo wrote in response to questions about the zoo from city manager
Richard Lewis.
...
The zoo is a money loser for the city, with costs of $500,000 and revenues
of about $100,000. It has come under increased scrutiny from animal rights
groups and citizens due to limited space and noise from the Grandview
Parkway, marina and the National Cherry Festival.
