MILWAUKEE - (KRT) - A false lab test contributed to delays in recognizing
last summer's monkeypox outbreak and gave doctors even more reason to think they
were dealing with plague or a different illness, a new report reveals.
Wisconsin doctors chronicle the outbreak that involved pet prairie dogs and
imported African rodents in the latest issue of the New England Journal of
Medicine.
In a separate report, other doctors describe another rare African pox disease
- tanapox - in a New Hampshire college student who had worked with
chimpanzees abroad.
