At one year old, a young gibbon begins to venture out of its mother's bosoms.
But they are not weaned until they are two-and-a-half years old.
These primates are balanced precariously between their natural habit and

Story and pictures by NARONG SUWANNARONG
Over the past two years, I have been visiting Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary
almost every month, tagging along with the sanctuary's research team in their
study of primates in this rich forest of Chaiyaphum province. Those numerous
trips have given me an insight into the lives of several wild animals, one of
which fascinates me most: the white-handed gibbon.
