KINGSTON - A city lawmaker who heads an influential Common Council committee
says she is in favor of a law that would require Kingston dog owners to leash
their pets and clean up after them.
But Alderwoman Ann Marie DiBella, D-Ward 5, the chairwoman of the council's
Laws and Rules Committee, is less certain about proposals to limit the number
of dogs one person can own or establishing a registry of pit bull terriers and
their owners.
DiBella's comments come in the wake of a newly drafted animal control
ordinance that is getting plenty of reaction from dog owners and facing a
re-examination by lawmakers. The proposal will be the focus of a public hearing Tuesday
at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall on Broadway.
