Scientists blame man's activities

By TAMMY MARLOWE, STAFF REPORTER

Scientists in Winnipeg and around the world are warning continued
over-consumption of the Earth's resources by humans could doom hundreds of land plants
and animals to extinction in less than 50 years. "It is staggering," said
Assiniboine Park Zoo curator Bob Wrigley. "Species that took millions and millions
of years to evolve -- we've wiped them off the face of the Earth in one or two
generations of ignorance.
"There's the phenomenal feeling of loss that any biologist feels -- or anyone
who loves nature feels -- when we are educated enough to know that we are
squandering all this."
