[from Akron Beacon Journal]
Plans are proceeding to shoot white-tailed deer in Akron's metro parks in
late February or early March.
It would be the first time that Metro Parks, Serving Summit County has
attempted to thin the herd.
...
In 1997, the 33,000-acre federal park wanted to have sharpshooters shoot
as many as 470 deer, but that plan was killed by a federal judge. A
coalition of animal rights groups had filed a lawsuit to block the shooting.
