The Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service will offer aquaculture
producers an educational seminar that overviews hybrid striped bass and
freshwater prawn production. The videoconference will take place at 12
locations in Indiana on Thursday (1/29) beginning at 7 p.m. EST.
"This program will provide experienced and beginning producers the
opportunity to gain information on hybrid bass, freshwater prawn and new
insights into the aquaculture industry," said Charles Felkner, Purdue
Extension aquaculture educator.
Designated host sites are: Southeast-Purdue Agricultural Center in
Butlerville; Pinney-Purdue Agricultural Center in Wanatah; the Community
Learning Center in Bedford; the Education Center in Tipton; and the Purdue
Extension offices in Allen, Decatur, Wells, Hendricks, Martin, Marion,
Delaware, and Vanderburgh counties.
Cortney Ohs, aquaculture specialist from Southern Illinois University, will
present information on producing hybrid striped bass in both farm ponds and
intensive recirculating systems. He also will discuss the production
techniques necessary to successfully grow freshwater prawns. Ohs has
extensive background in fish production techniques and related research,
plus experience in freshwater prawn production.
Producers also will have the opportunity to ask questions during the
program. The event, which is free and open to the public, is co-sponsored
and arranged by Purdue Extension, the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant College
Program and Southern Illinois University.
