OFF THE STREETS: Burdekin Shire has introduced a night ban on cats

MELISSA KETCHELL
25jan04
NORTH Queensland councils are getting tough on roaming moggies, with many
moving towards strict curfews in a bid to preserve native wildlife.

Burdekin Shire has already introduced a night ban on cats, with an inspector
on patrol to catch felines flouting the rules.
Mayor John Woods said there had been a drop in complaints about cats since
the rules came in several months ago.
"Most people want to do the right thing and have followed the rules," Cr
Woods said, but there had been some negative responses when registration for cats
was introduced.
