AR-News: (UK) Dogs seized in raid stolen from pound

COVINGTON — Three of the dogs seized in Saturday night’s massive 
dog-fighting raid have been stolen from Newton County Animal Control.
According to Newton County Sheriff Joe Nichols, the thief or thieves broke 
into the Animal Control facility, located on Lower River Road, through a door 
Monday evening, taking three of the 14 pit bulldogs that were trained to fight 
for a well-organized, illegal dog-fighting tournament that was held at 464 
Baker Road in Covington.
“I am not taking it lightly,” Nichols said. “We’re working with all our 
available resources to find (the perpetrators) and make sure that they are held 
accountable.”
Betsy Paul, who works with an organization that rescues pit  bulldogs, said 
estimates that the dogs are valued at $5,000-$50,000 each are not unreasonable.
