Biotechnology companies have figured out how to produce vaccines in corn and
force salmon to grow faster, but a new study says they need to take more
aggressive steps to prevent genetically engineered crops and creatures from
spreading in the wild.
A panel convened by the National Research Council found there has been scant
investigation of biological methods that could keep genetically modified
plants and animals from breeding with their natural cousins or contaminating the
nation's food supply.
