DeKalb officers raid cockfight, arrest one.

DeKalb County authorities raided a cockfighting pit
near Collinsville that drew more than 250 people from
five states.

The officers arrested a 69-year-old man Saturday and
another was expected to turn himself in to authorities
Monday.

Allen Dabbs of Munford was arrested for operating a
cockpit.

Several people were chased into a wooded area behind
the barn-like building off Alabama 68. DeKalb County
Sheriff Cecil Reed said at least 20 children attended
the event.

Reed said several people attending the fight came from
at least four other states, including Georgia,
Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi.

Dabbs allegedly collected a $20 admission fee to enter
the arena, while the other suspect is accused of
running the cockpit.

The raid was the second in three years at the site,
though Reed said it was the fourth cockfight on the
property since Nov. 2.

"It's a big thing here. It comes and goes," Reed said.
"They have tried it for years and years and years, but
have never made any headway."
