Local state Game and Fish officials are investigating two recent reports in
which one deer was poached and another was found with a rope around an antler,
officials said.
A passerby noticed the large buck mule deer with the rope attached to an
antler as it was grazing Wednesday in an area south of Gillette, game warden Bruce
Scigliano said.
Scigliano said the report is the latest in a trend involving illegally
capturing deer. "This was not an accident," he said. "Someone deliberately roped the
buck for either sport or to capture the animal."
