A SMALL band of protesters failed to stop sheep being loaded on to a ship in
Devonport for export to Kuwait.
Loading of the Al Shuwaikh began yesterday watched by a small police
presence.
But animal activists and meat union members say public opinion is slowly
mounting against live sheep exports.
Jenny Sielhorst, from Animal Rescue, said she was pleased more people were
speaking out against live exports.
"What happened on board the Cormo Express has shown people what is going on,"
she said.
"There is no room in Australia, especially Tasmania, for shipments like this.
"If we treated a dog or cat like this we would be thrown in jail."
Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania spokesperson Yvette Watt said the Bacon
Government must be kept under pressure on the issue.
