You may think of your horse as your best buddy, but he's not programmed to 
think of you in the same way.
"Have you hugged your horse today?" reads a popular bumper sticker. And, of 
course, you most certainly should have hugged your horse. You should also have 
visited, groomed, ridden, and bathed him. And you should've told him or her 
how you're feeling and what's going on in your life, because that's what true 
horse lovers do.
What you should not have done, however, is forgotten for one minute that your 
horse is a horse and you aren't. Which means that your horse doesn't think or 
react the way you do, because he isn't genetically programmed to do so, and 
if you forget that fact, your horse could hurt you without ever meaning to or 
understanding that he did.
