BRUSSELS - Europe must take urgent action to save hundreds of species of
birds, animals and plants from extinction, and reduce the threats posed by man to
the region's fragile ecosystem, the EU's environment chief said last week.

percent of bird and butterfly species are under threat, and some 800 plant species,
they say.
