In Tasmania, the loading of a live sheep vessel has been disrupted by
protestors from the Meatworkers Union and animal rights groups calling for a ban on
the live sheep trade.
Merian Ellis has more.

"Around 30 protestors are slowing the loading of 57,000 sheep at the
Devonport Wharf this morning. Each truck is being stopped by protestors and inspected
for any welfare breaches before proceeding to the docks. The Meatworkers Union
and animal rights groups are calling for an immediate ban of live exports
from Tasmania, and further protests are planned for later this month. This is the
first shipment from the state since the findings of the Keniry Inquiry were
released, recommending big changes to the live export industry."

not because of those who do evil,
but because of those who look on and do nothing.",

Male meat-eaters have a 50% chance of dying of a heart attack. Vegetarian men
have a 4% risk. US vegetarians have cholesterol levels 14% lower than
meat-eaters; vegans (those who don't consume meat or dairy products) have levels 35%
lower. JAMA, 1995;274:894
