SALEM One of the area's largest animal charities is considering tackling
the task of destroying dogs at the Columbiana County dog pound, which uses
a legal but often criticized method for killing unwanted canines.
The Mahoning County-based Angels for Animals already provides spaying and
neutering services for Columbiana County.
Killing sick, vicious and unadoptable dogs from the pound using lethal
injection would be a natural extension of that arrangement and would free
county dog-pound staff for other animal-related work, Diane Less Baird,
Angels co-founder, said recently.
Angels could take on dog destruction for a fee, Less Baird said. The final
decision whether to offer the service depends on Angels' paid veterinarian
staff and the Angels board, she added.
