Punta Gorda resident accused of organizing hog rodeo

Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Punta Gorda man after he 
organized a “hog rodeo” where dogs fought with feral hogs in a pen, according to 
the sheriff’s office. 
Eddie Lee Platt, 35, turned himself in to deputies Tuesday and faces a 
third-degree felony charge of cruelty to animals. Platt was released after posting a 
$5,000 bond. 
The investigation into the “hog rodeo” began in September when a Florida 
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission official notified the sheriff’s office 
about possible dog fighting and animal baiting in an area near U.S. 41 and 
Jones Loop Road.
