Ria Brown and her co-workers at Lee County Animal Services see the same sad 
drama played out day after day: families handing over their pets because the 
animal couldn’t adapt to a new baby. 
A few months back, a family returned a young basset hound-labrador mix 
because the dog just wouldn’t stop jumping on the infant. 
“This was a situation where ... I think the introductions were a little too 
quick,” Brown says. “The dog just wanted to play.” 
Experts say cats can experience family growing pains, too.
