AR-News: (UK) Animal activists take monkey lab plan to court

A Cambridge University proposal to build a monkey laboratory to study
brain disorders faced a High Court challenge yesterday.

John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister, ruled in favour of the plan last
November with the support of Tony Blair.

Although scientists and patient groups have said that the decision would
save lives and alleviate human suffering, the animal rights movement has
vowed to fight the project at every step.

Animal Aid and the National Anti-Vivisection Society yesterday launched
the legal challenge against the ruling, which they said was "perverse,
unreasonable and unfair".
