AFTER I WROTE the recent column about deer in the regional parks, several 
other questions occurred to me regarding lifestyles of the hoofed and antlered.
So I returned to my definitive source of deer information -- Joe DiDonato, 
the East Bay Regional Park District's wildlife program manager. Joe kindly 
provided some more deer trivia to pass along.
For example, deer have highly developed senses of smell and hearing. These 
are their primary means of detecting and avoiding predators. A deer's nose is 
more sensitive than a dog's, and a dog's nose is extremely sensitive (though you 
wouldn't necessarily think so, based on dogs' observed sniffing habits).
