MT. VERNON — This dog is big, black and friendly. His whole body wriggles
when he see a stranger.
And he’s that way even though the left side of his face is torn up because of
a bullet that was pumped into it.
Its wounds still ooze and the flesh is still raw, but the dog doesn’t growl
and or show fear or hostility toward humans. Dr. Jo Lynn Lamczyk knows, because
it was her infant daughter, Anna, who walked up to the dog’s cage Thursday
with pieces of food in her fingers, offering it to the animal a piece at a time.
“He was being very careful,” the veterinarian said of the dog, which she
calls Ihmo (EE-mo), after a character in the movie “The Mummy” which had only
part of a face.
Ihmo gently nibbled at the food, doing no harm to Anna.
Lamczyk doesn’t know all the details of what happened, but she does know the
dog owes its life to a boy who got the animal to her.
The boy saw the dog walking across some land when someone shot it.
“He saw it fall over,” Lamczyk said.
