DULUTH, Minn. -- More deer hunters are illegally leaving venison to rot or 
grabbing only the choicest parts instead of butchering the animal properly, 
state officials said. 
"It's just sickening," said Mike Scott, Minnesota Department of Natural 
Resources conservation officer at Floodwood. "They're taking the hind quarters, the 
backstraps and the tenderloins. That's it. They're leaving the front end of 
the deer." 
Scott found one pile of 13 discarded deer in a gravel pit near Floodwood. One 
animal was not butchered at all. Four or five others were skinned only as far 
as their midsection so hunters could take prime cuts of meat.
