DULUTH, Minn. -- More deer hunters are illegally leaving venison to rot or
grabbing only the choicest parts instead of butchering the animal properly,
state officials said.
"It's just sickening," said Mike Scott, Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources conservation officer at Floodwood. "They're taking the hind quarters, the
backstraps and the tenderloins. That's it. They're leaving the front end of
the deer."
Scott found one pile of 13 discarded deer in a gravel pit near Floodwood. One
animal was not butchered at all. Four or five others were skinned only as far
as their midsection so hunters could take prime cuts of meat.

"As custodians of the planet it is our responsibility to deal with all
species with kindness, love, and compassion. That these animals suffer through human
cruelty is beyond understanding. Please help to stop this madness."
