Biologists relish the chance to study state's population

Hunter Mike Novak watched curiously as the wildlife biologists at Whittingham
Wildlife Refuge in Sussex County got up close and personal with his dead
bear.
Armed with pliers, needles, a small skin punch, vials, a tape measure and a
scale, they went to work. They rubbed its fur, examined the gunshot wounds,
pulled back its lips and yanked a tooth.
