BOLIVAR PENINSULA — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals put up a
$2,500 reward Friday for information leading to the arrest of those who
clipped the wing feathers of up to 12 brown pelicans on the Bolivar
Peninsula earlier this week.

“We typically do this in a situation where they don’t have any suspects
yet,” said Stephanie Boyles of the animal rights group’s research and
investigations department.

At the same time, local wildlife rehabilitators said they have discovered
more maimed birds in the area. On Wednesday, Trudy Belz a wildlife
rehabilitator in Texas City, said she had taken in five maimed birds, each
with their wing feathers crudely clipped.
