AR-News: (IL) State to track threat to farms

   SPRINGFIELD – The state plans to launch a pilot program in Clinton County 
that will use satellite technology and the Internet to map out agricultural 
assets that are potentially at risk of terrorism.
   Gov. Rod Blagojevich pledged Friday to "expeditiously" expand the program 
to the state's other 101 counties if it proves to be successful.
   "Just as we are one of the nation's leading agriculture producers, we must 
also lead when it comes to making sure the nation's food supply is 
protected," the governor said in a written release.
   San Diego-based Science Applications International Corp., which maintains 
an office in Champaign, is getting $22,000 to develop the pilot program, 
according to the governor's office.
   The first phase of the project involves using satellites to map out the 
locations of livestock, grain elevators, food processing facilities, water 
reservoirs and related sites.
