VINELAND -- It was a sad surrender for Freddy Dominguez, who gave up his
seven German Shepherds Wednesday evening.
For the past few years, he had bred the pedigree shepherds.
Because he lives in a mobile home park, he rented kennel space for his
sleek-coated stunners.
The property owners came to the SPCA's attention and investigators began a
cruelty investigation of their animals.
Dominguez's dogs were not part of the case. In fact, they appeared very well
cared for.
But recently Dominguez noticed his dogs might no longer be safe on the
property.
SPCA investigators said there was an instance where one shepherd was
apparently hit by a paintball shot.
This week, his prize 5-year-old Pricey hobbled on an injured front paw.
Dominguez was forced to make a tough decision.
Unable to secure alternative kennel space, he took the SPCA up on its offer
to try to find homes for the dogs.
Arrangements were made for Dominguez to drop the dogs off about 4:30 p.m.
