AR-News: (AU) Sheep contamination confirmed

VICTORIAN authorities have confirmed a feedlot used by sheep bound for
export to the Middle East was contaminated with pork meat.

Victoria's chief veterinary officer Hugh Millar said test results of
material collected from Portland, in the state's south-west, confirmed one
paddock containing 1800 sheep had been contaminated with shredded ham.

He said there was no evidence that other paddocks had been contaminated.

"There has been no risk to animals or public health from this incident,"
Dr Millar said.

The test results follow a claim by Animal Liberation that its members
contaminated the feedlot's water and food systems with pig meat to make it
unacceptable for export to halal-conscious Muslim markets.
