TENINO -- Wolf Haven International workers are leaving today to take custody
of seven new wolves -- two parents and five pups.
The wolves, which were born in captivity, were the property of a Southern
California family that can no longer care for the animals, partly because of
damage from the recent wildfires, said Liz Dalton, Wolf Haven executive director.
Wolf Haven staff and volunteers leave this morning for the 17-hour drive to
San Bernardino. The wolves will be sedated and put in special crates for the
drive to Wolf Haven's Tenino headquarters. The wolves are scheduled to arrive
Tuesday.
"We're comfortable that we will eventually be able to show them to the
public," Dalton said. "Five wolf pups is very unusual."
