AR-News: (US) Petitions against bear hunt presented

Animal rights activists presented Gov. James E. McGreevey with more than
82,000 signed petitions at a press conference Tuesday morning urging the
governor to stop the first scheduled bear hunt in 30 years.

"The governor shouldn't have went back on his promise," said Lynda Smith,
director of the Bear Education and Resource Group in Hewitt. "We are
concerned about (the more than 6,700 hunters) in a small area of the
state, not our black bears."
