During last year's deer hunt, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz was watching a group
of does through his rifle scope.

In the midst of a mayoral campaign, he had just achieved the kind of thing
hunters will retell into old age: A 225-yard shot that killed a handsome
eight-point buck where it stood.

It's not the kind of story Madison politicians usually tell. To begin
with, only one other mayor in the last 40 years was a deer hunter. And if
Cieslewicz is successful this weekend, he will be the only one to shoot a
deer while in office.

Fearing chronic wasting disease, his wife, Dianne, will not let him eat
the meat. So, Cieslewicz said, he would give the meat to his family.
