GUTHRIE MAN SHOT FROM CLOSE RANGE
The first personal injury during the hunting season in Guthrie county was reported Sunday morning, according to Conservation officer George Hemmen.
Mark Dawson was hospitalized with an injury to his left heel when a gun owned by Larry Edgington discharged into the foot of Dawson while they were getting out of a vehicle to hunt.
Hemmen said Dawson had about 40 pellets in the wound and was still in the hospital. He also said the pellets might have caused even more damage from the three feet distance if they had not struck a milk carton before going through Dawson's boot.
Hunting accidents in Iowa have been on the increase since the pheasant season opened, Hemmen said.
He attributed the increase to more pheasants in Iowa, more hunters and the good weather that saw more hunters taking to the fields.
