Allegations by an animal rights group that Niabi Zoo animals were
exploited by a recent appearance on ``Late Show with David Letterman'' are
``a shame,'' zoo director Tom Stalf says.

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, sent Mr. Stalf a
letter, dated Wednesday, asking him to create a policy prohibiting similar
appearances. It also asks Mr. Stalf to disassociate himself from Jack
Hanna, nationally-known conservationist of the Columbus (Ohio) Zoo.
