Animal rights activists confined themselves in a cage in front of a KFC
restaurant on Silom road yesterday, protesting against the company's
``inhumane'' treatment of chickens.
The three members of the US-based People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals (PETA) held signs stating ``KFC Tortures Chickens'' and said they
wanted the international franchise to follow minimum standards in the way
it raises and slaughters the chickens it sells.
``We're not asking KFC to become vegetarian,'' said PETA Asia
Representative Jason Baker, who headed the protest.
``What we want is for the company to treat the chickens more humanely and
give them enough room, so the birds can at least spread their wings.''
PETA began its anti-KFC campaign in January with protests so far in
Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.
