"CALA offers something new in the struggle for animal rights: an
independent platform for all voices speaking to the issues to be heard,
without interruption, whatever the message. Here, finally, is a place
where the philosophical and strategic foundations of animal rights can
be explored, fully and fairly."
--Tom Regan

"CALA is doing important work. It's efforts to encourage the academic
community to take notice of the philosophy and tactics of the animal
liberation movement are to be commended."
--Bite Back magazine

In case you are not aware, the Center on Animal Liberation Affairs
(CALA) is up and running. We are an online academic resource for study
of the ethics, history, philosophy, and politics of direct action animal
liberation struggles. Here are some of the things we do:

v We developed and edited the forthcoming book, Terrorists or
Freedom Fighters? Reflections on the Liberation of Animals (Fall 2003
Lantern Books). This is the first book on the ALF and is appropriately
strong and thorough.
v We created an online journal for Animal Liberation Philosophy
and Policy Studies. The first issue already is online, and we seek
contributors and editors for future issues. This is a professional,
peer-reviewed journal.
v We organize and sponsor conferences relating to issues in animal
liberation and direct action.
v We maintain a site on current news items relating to the ALF,
the ELF, state repression and surveillance of the animal rights
movement, and privacy issues.
v We have special pages on the recent Chiron bombing and Foie Gras
attacks.
v We have a page on activist legal resources and links to
important academic and activist sites.
v We have a comprehensive link to college syllabi on animal rights
courses.
v We are sponsors of the annual Animal Liberation Front Awareness
Day (October 22) at universities across the nation.

We invite you to regularly visit our site as it is always updated and
maintained, and to join our unique and valuable collective.
