THE two sides of the live animal export debate came face to face at
Portland yesterday and are likely to do so again today.
Adviser for Australian Democrats leader Andrew Bartlett, Brenda Kemp, who
was in Portland yesterday, said the live export trade was less profitable
than its export alternatives.
"I'm concerned that people aren't recognising the economic disadvantages
that are happening because of our commitment to live exports," Ms Kemp said.
"It is a fragile industry and the money is in the frozen export trade.
