AR-News: (US) Accused puppy beater faces life in prison

The Burlingame man who allegedly beat his girlfriend and smashed her
10-week-old pit bull puppy against a car window could be sent to prison
for life if a jury convicts him of a third strike.

Duaine Belgarde, 46, is facing a third criminal strike on felony charges
of domestic violence and cruelty to an animal. A third strike
automatically carries a 25 years to life penalty. The charges themselves
could add nine years in prison.
