William Buchert Allegedly Shot The Basset Hound After It Urinated In His Yard

Plainfield — In November 1996, Joyce Carpenter surprised her three
children with an early Christmas present: a chubby tan, white and black
basset hound the family named “Mr. Bojangles.”

Thursday, Bo waddled two doors down from his Ashley Street home and
urinated in the yard of William Buchert at 1 Ashley St., police said.
Buchert allegedly pointed a high-powered pellet gun at the dog and pulled
the trigger, sending a pellet deep into Bo's chest.

Police arrested Buchert and charged him with cruelty to animals, unlawful
discharge of a firearm and breach of peace. He did not return calls for
comment.
