AR-News: (US) Police commander says he won't issue permit for pet monkey

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Saying that pet primates are too dangerous to be allowed
in the city, a police commander has denied a woman a permit to keep her
pet Capuchin monkey in Green Bay.

"I put a lot of research into it, got a lot of letters from a lot of
different organizations, and I made a decision based on the risk to the
public," Cmdr. Al Timmerman said in the ruling released Monday.

Timmerman said a key factor in his decision is that monkeys are carriers
of the Simian B virus, which is fatal to 70 percent of humans who contract it.
