[from Roxboro Courier Times]

This week, there was yet another development in the chain of events
surrounding a former animal control officer's report that she had
been attacked by a pit bulldog.

That report was made more than two weeks ago. This week, evidence in
an earlier alleged dogfighting case was stolen from an evidence room
maintained by Person County Animal Control. It was evidence that had
been collected in late January, seized by former Person County Animal
Control officer Patsy Bryant, the officer who reported more than two
weeks ago that she had been the victim of a pre-planned attack by a
pit bulldog. It was evidence in Bryant's case against accused
dogfight promoter Michael Dowdell. Dowdell was indicted in February
on charges of promoting dogfighting and cruelty to animals. Bryant
was the charging officer in those indictments.

The timing of the initial report that some items of evidence had been
removed from the evidence room was ironic.
