[from Chicago Daily Herald]

They've tucked away their protest signs and shut down the hotline, but a
group of former Pet Rescue volunteers say they remain united and focused
on closing the controversial Bloomingdale animal shelter.

The 25-member group known as We CARE, or Citizens for Animal Rescue
Emergency, includes members who say they witnessed cruelty, abuse and
neglect of animals at the shelter, located at 151 N. Bloomingdale Road.

For more than three years, Pet Rescue has been the subject of
investigations and court proceedings launched by both the Illinois
attorney general and the Department of Agriculture.

Both agencies have questioned whether conditions at the shelter are
healthy enough to support the housing of hundreds of animals. And the
agriculture department maintains the shelter has not had a proper license
since 2000.
