One week after Animal Control's largest ever cat-rescue, officials are
pondering an adoption program, with financial incentives, to find homes
for the dozens of orphaned cats.

Details will be announced Wednesday, said Bob Downey, director of the
Capital Humane Society.

Until then, only previous owners can claim their pets.

Animal Control said it rescued 78 cats and two dogs July 25 from a house
at 5020 South St.

The owners of the house, Judy Funkey and Lorraine Beil, have been ticketed
on suspicion of animal neglect, animal cruelty and violating city
sanitation laws.

They are scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 3.
